AHA 2009 Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award will be awarded to C. Bairey Merz Christmas, MD,

Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award, initiated by the AHA Women in Cardiology Committee and sponsored by the AHA Council on Clinical Cardiology, was designed to recognize individuals who have an outstanding record of effective mentoring female cardiologists and emphasize the importance of mentoring for the development professional women cardiologists.Bairey Merz is director of the Women’s Heart Center and the Center for Prevention and Cardiac Rehabilitation at Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute. He also Guild Chair with women in women’s health and is a professor of medicine at Cedars-Sinai.

C. Bairey Merz Christmas, MD, internationally recognized authority on heart health of women, will receive the 2009 American Heart Association Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award at the Scientific Sessions of the organization in 2009, to be held in Orlando Orange County Convention Center 14 November to November 18.

Important steps that should be part of any reorientation of the health system include encouraging patients to use primary care providers as coordinators of care by their investment services, rather than high-tech support community-based primary care, and improve communication between specialists and general practitioners.
